Open Thursdays -- Art Drop-In Class
September & October 2019
Have you been looking for a way to bring more art into your life? Is there a creative idea that’s been bouncing around your head, looking for the time or space to actually get made? In September and October, I will be offering Open Thursdays from 5:30 - 8PM to provide time and space for neighbors to make art. Starts September 5th!
Bring your own materials and work on a creative art or craft project of your choosing. Set up a still life and draw or paint it… make time for your art journaling aspirations… upcycle something old into something new… create a paper cutout… make a collage… embellish your jeans… bead jewelry… Not sure where to start? I will have a few suggestions and materials on hand if you need them.
Open Thursdays are designed to bring people together, to encourage creative practice and exploration, and to give us something to look forward to each week! Classes meet at the MakerSphere Creative Studios at 30 Foundry Street on the second floor. Bring a snack or drink for yourself if you wish. Classes are $7 to drop in or $40 for the two-month window. Scholarships are available.
Middle School Art Class: Seeing the world through different eyes
Art has changed tremendously over the centuries. This stems not just from developments in technology and materials, but also from changes in the way we understand the world and the people around us.
Friday afternoons in October, I will offer a painting class for middle school students, grades 5-8, that uses examples from art history as a way to explore using color, line and texture in painting in our own work.
We’ll start each class talking about the work of a particular artist, then we’ll make our own paintings that reflect their ideas. In October, we’ll have fun digging into the colorful work of several iconic post-Impressionists: Georges Seurat, Vincent VanGogh, Suzanne Valadon and Pierre Bonnard.
The class will start after school at 3 and go until 5PM. Students can take bus #2, 3, 4 or 8 from Crossett Brook to Thatcher Brook, and then walk 3 blocks to the MakerSphere Creative Studios at 30 Foundry Street. All art materials and a snack will be provided. The cost for the 4 weeks of class in the October session is $125.
Guided Studio Workshop
January, February and March, 2020
Do you struggle to make time to paint or draw? Wish you had someone to check-in with about how to fix a painting that’s stalled? Wonder how to further develop your skills? Hope to meet other people who are also pursuing artistic interests?
Consider joining me for a 3-month guided studio workshop. We’ll meet from 10AM to 1 PM on Saturday mornings during January, February and March at MakerSphere Creative Studios (30 Foundry Street in Waterbury village).
This idea is especially developed for the beginning or intermediate painter or sketcher who is looking to build some momentum in their practice. Bring your own materials, in the medium you prefer, and photos or still life materials to paint or draw. Although a group class, I’ll work with each person independently based on their experience and aspirations.
The total cost for the 13 sessions is $200 — which I’m hoping is low enough to incentivize you to take this chance, but also expensive enough to encourage you to show up!
